Students go into the Workplace to Learn

Would you rather tell students about the workplace or show them?

JA Job Shadow introduces students to careers through one-day, on-site orientations or through more extensive internships.  It's an authentic work-world experience with classroom preparatory and follow-up activities.

JA Job Shadow enhances students' learning of the following concepts and skills:
  • Concepts - Career cluster, interests, interview, reflect and evaluate, resume, skill, and work-readiness skills.
  • Skills - Analyzing and interpreting information, brainstorming, critical thinking, goal setting, oral and written communication, public speaking, self-assessment, and working in groups.

JA Job Shadow is a three session course, plus job shadow site visit and is recommended for students in grades 9-12.  instructional materials are down-loadable and include detailed activity plans for the site-coordinator, students, and teacher.  All JA programs are designed to support the skills and connecting activities for communities with school-to-work initiatives.
