Who can attend?
Start It Up is open to current students who will have completed the ninth grade by June 2016. Graduating seniors are eligible to apply.

Why should I attend?
Start It Up camp will help high school students develop their entrepreneurial skills and aspirations. This residential camp is held at one of Minnesota’s premier universities. Participants will access tools and resources to support their start-up dreams, network with successful entrepreneurs, explore leadership concepts, enhance business skills, and build confidence in a fun and innovative learning environment.

How much does it cost?
The cost is $350 and includes lodging, meals and materials. Students pay a $25 fee with their application, which is due May 20. The remaining $325 balance is due June 10. Limited scholarships are available on a needs basis.

How do I apply for a scholarship?
The scholarship application is on page 8 of the camp registration form, or you can download the PDF version. You will need to complete the registration form in its entirety. Check the box indicating that you will “pay the $25 non-refundable application fee;” however, you will not be invoiced for this fee. Students qualify for a scholarship if they receive free and reduced lunch, if there are extenuating family circumstances, or if invited to apply by Junior Achievement. For more information, contact LaChelle Williams at lachelle@jaum.org or 651-255-0031.

When is the deadline to apply?
June 21, 2016

How do I apply?
Apply online.

Can I request a specific roommate?
Yes. When you complete the online registration form, you’ll have an opportunity to request a roommate. Please note that there are two students per room.

Do I have to be at Start It Up the entire week?
Yes. To ensure that all students have a positive experience, we require them to stay on campus Sunday through Friday. Your full attendance is also necessary for the success of your team’s project.

Are there lots of rules?
Start It Up is structured like a professional conference or business trip. JA recognizes that you are a leader. JA also values your safety. We have very high standards of our participating students.

What should I tell my parents?
Your parents/guardians will want to know how you will be supervised. Students are supervised by University of St. Thomas staff, camp directors, resident advisors and company advisors. Students report directly to the camp counselors. All camp counselors and directors pass background checks, undergo Start It Up training, and mentor roughly five students.

I’m accepted – now what?
You will be emailed an acceptance packet a few weeks prior to the start of camp. Be sure to consult the packing list, and bring a fan for your dorm room and professional clothes for your final presentation.
